Al-Riyadiya Channel Clarifies Circumstances of Broadcasting the Distorted Map During Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Coverage; CAF Issues Apology

Moroccan channel Al-Riyadiya broke its silence to clarify the circumstances surrounding the broadcast of a commercial break in which a distorted map of the Kingdom of Morocco appeared during its coverage of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations matches, following a wave of criticism directed at the channel.

In an official statement released on Sunday, the channel confirmed that the commercial break in question is part of the official international feed provided by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as part of the live coverage of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations matches. Al-Riyadiya emphasized that it does not intervene in the content of this live feed, acting solely as a broadcaster transmitting the signal as provided by the organizing body to all stations airing the event.

The channel clarified that it strictly adheres to broadcasting the feed as received from CAF without any modification or interference in the content, thereby disclaiming responsibility for the error that appeared in the commercial break.

Meanwhile, CAF issued an official apology to the Moroccan National Broadcasting Company, acknowledging full responsibility for the mistake. CAF pledged to correct the commercial break in question and to take all necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

This step reflects CAF’s and Al-Riyadiya’s commitment to respecting national sovereignty and media professionalism, ensuring sports coverage that complies with all applicable standards and regulations.
