Morocco – Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, held talks with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, Guterres asked the Moroccan minister to convey his fraternal greetings, respect and appreciation to King Mohammed VI, expressing, according to the Maghreb Arab Press Agency, his admiration for the Kingdom of Morocco’s commitment to supporting multilateralism and for its positions in defending the three pillars of the United Nations, including during periods he described as difficult and complex.
The United Nations Secretary-General said that the world is going through a difficult period, amid the worsening of several crises and the expansion of the scope of wars, while considering that Morocco is experiencing a stable situation thanks to royal leadership.
During the same meeting, Guterres praised the role played by Moroccan diplomacy at the United Nations and on the international stage, describing it, according to the same source, as “active, elegant and determined” diplomacy under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
For his part, Nasser Bourita conveyed to the United Nations Secretary-General the greetings of King Mohammed VI, along with his appreciation for the cooperation that has characterized relations between Morocco and the United Nations during António Guterres’s two terms, since he assumed the position of Secretary-General in 2016.
The meeting comes in the context of Morocco’s participation in the work of the United Nations in New York, amid continued international discussions on a number of issues and crises affecting the international scene.

Maroc – Le ministre des Affaires étrangères, de la Coopération africaine et des Marocains résidant à l’étranger, Nasser Bourita, s’est entretenu mercredi 16 septembre 2026 avec le Secrétaire général des Nations Unies, António Guterres, au siège de l’Organisation des Nations Unies à New York.
Au cours de cette rencontre, Guterres a chargé le ministre marocain de transmettre ses salutations fraternelles ainsi que ses sentiments de respect et d’estime au Roi Mohammed VI, exprimant, selon ce que rapporte l’Agence Maghreb Arabe Presse, son admiration pour l’engagement du Royaume du Maroc en faveur du multilatéralisme et pour ses positions dans la défense des trois piliers des Nations Unies, y compris durant des périodes qu’il a qualifiées de difficiles et complexes.
Le Secrétaire général des Nations Unies a déclaré que le monde traverse une période difficile, marquée par l’aggravation de plusieurs crises et l’élargissement du champ des guerres, estimant que le Maroc connaît une situation stable grâce au leadership royal.
Lors de la même rencontre, Guterres a salué le rôle joué par la diplomatie marocaine au niveau des Nations Unies et sur la scène internationale, la qualifiant, selon la même source, de diplomatie « active, élégante et déterminée » sous la conduite du Roi Mohammed VI.
De son côté, Nasser Bourita a transmis au Secrétaire général des Nations Unies les salutations du Roi Mohammed VI, ainsi que sa reconnaissance pour la coopération qui a marqué les relations entre le Maroc et l’Organisation des Nations Unies durant les deux mandats d’António Guterres, depuis sa prise de fonction en tant que Secrétaire général en 2016.
Cette rencontre intervient dans le contexte de la participation du Maroc aux travaux des Nations Unies à New York, alors que le débat international se poursuit autour de plusieurs dossiers et crises qui marquent la scène internationale.
