Bab Sebta: Franco-Algerian Man Arrested with 79 kg of Cannabis in His Car

Customs authorities at the Bab Sebta border crossing thwarted a major drug trafficking attempt on the evening of Monday, June 16, 2025, by arresting a Franco-Algerian man found transporting 79 kilograms of cannabis resin (hashish) hidden inside his Citroën vehicle coming from Moroccan territory.

The suspect was accompanied by a woman believed to be his accomplice. Judicial investigations have been launched under the supervision of the public prosecutor to identify any networks involved in this cross-border trafficking operation.

On the same night, a joint operation by police and customs at Tangier Med port successfully intercepted a large-scale international drug trafficking attempt, seizing a record haul of 7 tons and 50 kilograms of cannabis resin.

The illicit cargo was carefully concealed in the trailer of a Moroccan-registered truck preparing to depart for a European port. The 42-year-old Moroccan driver was arrested and placed in custody by order of the competent prosecutor’s office.

A judicial inquiry has been opened to uncover all national and international links of the suspected criminal network.

These coordinated security operations reflect the ongoing efforts of Moroccan authorities to combat drug trafficking and strengthen security at key border points and ports.
