Fès-Meknes Regional Council Discusses Development Projects in Education, Environment, and Spatial Planning in Official Meeting

The Bureau of the Fès-Meknes Regional Council held a meeting on Wednesday, April 9, 2024, at the Regional Council’s headquarters, chaired by Council President Abdelouahed El Ansari. The session focused on discussing several strategic files aimed at improving various sectors in the region and enhancing sustainable development.

The meeting centered around monitoring the progress of the 2022–2027 Regional Development Program, considered a cornerstone for the region’s future development. Part of the session was also dedicated to preparing the methodology for evaluating the Regional Spatial Planning Scheme, in accordance with Decree No. 2.17.583 issued on September 28, 2017, which outlines the procedure for drafting the scheme.

Among the key topics discussed was the preparation of the Regional Master Plan for Waste Management. The foundations were laid for a project addressing non-hazardous industrial, medical, and pharmaceutical waste, as well as final, agricultural, and inert waste. The plan aims to achieve environmental, social, and economic objectives at the regional level.

The council also focused on improving the quality of preschool education. Members reviewed a project for equipping and managing early childhood education spaces, aimed at ensuring proper development and skill-building for children. In addition, a proposed partnership agreement between the Regional Council and the National School of Administration was presented. This partnership is expected to enhance cooperation in the areas of continuing education and knowledge exchange.

As part of the region’s ongoing development projects, the council reviewed a proposal to finance and implement small dams and hill lakes to strengthen local water resources. The meeting also addressed the 2025 continuing education program for members of local councils, aiming to build local capacities and enhance the effectiveness of territorial governance.

In relation to the tourism economy, the council discussed organizing exhibitions and tourism forums to revitalize the sector and promote regional products, particularly in rural and natural areas. The session also included discussions on strengthening the social and solidarity economy, with the broader goal of reinforcing the region’s agricultural identity and opening it to national and international markets.

These discussions mark a significant step toward boosting coordination across various sectors and achieving sustainable regional development, ultimately improving living conditions for citizens and elevating the region’s status on multiple levels.
