The Directorate General of National Security reacted with great seriousness and speed to a video widely circulated on social media platforms on the evening of Saturday, April 12th, documenting an incident of mosque desecration and an exchange of violence between two individuals inside a mosque in the city of Tiflet.
Initial investigations conducted by the security services revealed that the incident originally pertains to a criminal case previously handled by the Regional Police Commissariat in Tiflet on April 9th. This followed the security services receiving a notification indicating that two individuals, visibly under the influence of drugs, had violated the sanctity of a mosque located in the Al-Saada neighborhood of the same city, where they engaged in mutual violence within the house of God.
The swift intervention of police officers resulted in the arrest of the two suspects shortly after they committed these criminal acts. It was found that the detainees, both of whom have prior criminal records, were placed in police custody under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office. This was to deepen the judicial investigation and uncover all the circumstances surrounding the case.
In a related context, the judiciary decided to prosecute the two suspects while in custody, after they were presented before it to consider the charges against them.
This rapid and effective response from the Directorate General of National Security underscores its keenness to address all forms of crime and behaviors that undermine the sanctity of religious sites and the safety and security of citizens. It also reflects the vigilance of its services in dealing with content published on social media that requires urgent security intervention.
