Budapest: Hungary reaffirmed its support on Wednesday for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco to resolve the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, considering it the “most credible basis” for settling this regional dispute.
This reiteration came during discussions between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó, in1 the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
During a joint press conference following the talks, the Hungarian Minister stated that his country considers the autonomy proposal a “realistic and practical solution” that aligns with the resolutions of the UN Security Council and values the efforts made by Morocco to find a final resolution to this issue.
Szijjártó also announced that instructions had been given to his country’s ambassador in Rabat to visit the Moroccan Sahara, following the example of ambassadors from many major countries, to gain firsthand knowledge of the developments and conditions in the region.
This Hungarian position further underscores the growing international support for Morocco’s autonomy proposal as a serious and credible solution for resolving the Sahara dispute.
