Salé: The Deputy Mayor of Salé, Mohamed Nejjar, was violently physically assaulted yesterday, Tuesday, with a white weapon.
Mohamed Nejjar, the fourth vice-president of the Salé city council, responsible for cultural, sports, and social affairs, was attacked with a bladed weapon yesterday, Tuesday, during a field visit to the El Ghazal market in the old medina.
The local official, a member of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), was attacked by a 35-year-old individual. The latter allegedly received a promise of employment from Nejjar when he worked for him during the election campaign.
Before his act, the young man in question regularly went to Nejjar’s office at the municipality, insisting that the elected official keep his promise.
During his arrest, the assailant refused to obey and confronted the police officers while brandishing a white weapon. The officers were then forced to fire warning shots into the air, which allowed them to arrest the suspect and disarm him.
The suspect was placed in police custody on the instructions of the competent public prosecutor’s office, pending further investigation to determine the motives, circumstances, and background of this attack.
In a statement to the press, the orthopedic specialist who treated Mohamed Nejjar confirmed that his state of health is now stable, following the successful surgery performed last night.
The intervention took place in a private clinic in Salé, under the supervision of the doctor. The latter specified that the convalescence period remains essential, constituting an important phase of the recovery process after orthopedic surgery.
