Teachers Across Morocco, Including Marrakech, Tetouan, and Casablanca, Stage Protests Condemning Teacher’s Murder and Demanding Safety and Dignity

Rabat: Several Moroccan cities, including Marrakech, Tetouan, and Casablanca, witnessed large-scale protests today, Wednesday, April 16, 2025, organized by teachers in front of the regional directorates of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sports. These mobilizations followed national calls for a general strike across educational institutions in the Kingdom, triggered by the horrific murder of teacher Hajar and the growing anger over repeated assaults targeting both female and male educators.

In Marrakech, dozens of teachers gathered in front of the ministry’s regional directorate, expressing their shock and strong condemnation of the murder, while demanding the necessary security protection for those working in the education sector. Protesters also called for the implementation of urgent and effective measures to curb violence in and around educational institutions.

Similarly, the cities of Tetouan and Casablanca saw parallel protests where teachers held up signs denouncing the crime and urging the ministry to take responsibility for ensuring the dignity and safety of both female and male educators, and to provide a secure and stable working environment that allows them to carry out their educational missions in conditions that preserve their dignity and protect them from attacks.

Participants in these protests expressed their full solidarity with the victim’s family and colleagues, emphasizing the need for concerned authorities to take serious action to end the state of tension within the education sector due to the increasing incidents of violence. Protesters demanded enhanced security around educational institutions and stricter penalties for those who commit assaults against workers in this vital sector.
