Chaos at Moroccan Consulate in Marseille: Algerian Migrant Threatens Death and Bites Security Guard

Marseille, France: French police arrested an illegal Algerian migrant after he threatened the Moroccan Vice-Consul with death and bit a security guard in the face on Friday in Marseille.

The Consulate of the Kingdom of Morocco in Marseille experienced security disturbances on Friday, April 11th. According to information reported by “Valeurs actuelles” citing police sources, a 30-year-old illegal Algerian migrant was apprehended after threatening the Moroccan Vice-Consul at the consulate in Marseille with death, and biting a security guard in the face.

Suspect Known to French Police

Police were alerted to the incident in the early afternoon, and officers went to the scene around 2:50 PM. Upon their arrival, the suspect had already left. The Vice-Consul reported to the police that he had been threatened with death by the individual, who allegedly warned that he would return to the diplomatic building with an explosive device. A security guard also sustained a minor bite to the face and has filed a formal complaint.

The suspect was later identified and arrested at his home around 5:30 PM and placed in police custody. The 30-year-old man is of Algerian nationality and is already known to the French Judicial Antecedents Processing system (TAJ). He has been residing illegally on French soil since April 2nd.

It is noted that diplomatic tensions between Paris and Algiers have escalated in recent months following France’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara. This stance provoked the anger of the Algerian regime, which has intensified its critical positions towards Paris, including its refusal to repatriate its dangerous nationals deported from France. A poll conducted by the CSA Institute for CNews, Europe 1, and JDD in early January revealed that 66% of French citizens wish for an immediate halt to all immigration from Algeria.
