Al Hoceima Hosts the First Regional Forum on Media and Development Under the Theme “Media: A Fundamental Pillar for Territorial Marketing”

Al Hoceima: The first regional forum on media and development kicked off in the city of Al Hoceima yesterday, Friday, under the theme “Media: A Fundamental Pillar for Territorial Marketing.” The opening day of this forum, organized by the Rif Association for Press and Media with the support of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, witnessed the honoring of prominent media figures, in addition to in-depth presentations and interventions that addressed the vital role of media in promoting territorial marketing, in the presence of a selection of journalists, media professionals, officials, and local authorities.

In his opening address, Samir El Mokaddem, President of the Rif Association for Press and Media, emphasized the paramount importance of this forum, which aims to establish an interactive platform for dialogue and the exchange of knowledge and expertise on the complementary relationship between media and development. The forum also seeks to create common spaces for constructive discussion among various development actors at the local and regional levels.

El Mokaddem pointed out the pivotal role played by media and communication in the daily lives of citizens and in enriching public debate among various stakeholders concerned with comprehensive development issues. He explained that this necessitates enhancing the use of media tools to consolidate sustainable regional development and strengthen mutual understanding of the challenges and development opportunities available.

For her part, Manal Chehi, the Regional Director of the Communication Sector in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, affirmed in her speech that this meeting represents a valuable opportunity to emphasize the vital role played by the regional press as an expressive voice of territorial dynamics and an accurate indicator of the pulse of development.

In this context, Chehi highlighted the continuous governmental support directed towards the media sector, including the regional media, which is considered a fundamental lever for achieving sustainable development, strengthening media balance between the center and the regions, in addition to achieving spatial justice in access to news and information and keeping pace with ambitious territorial development programs.

On the sidelines of the forum’s activities, Mohamed Azarkan, Director of the Al Hoceima Investment Center, presented a valuable intervention entitled “Investment Dynamics, Figures and Indicators,” in which he reviewed the fundamental methodologies of territorial marketing and the pivotal role played by the media in this field.

In turn, Abdelali Rahmani, the Provincial Delegate of Tourism in Al Hoceima, addressed the topic of the role of territorial marketing in promoting the tourism offer in the Al Hoceima province in light of digital transformations and the strategic roadmap for the national tourism sector for the period 2023-2026, highlighting the diverse tourism resources and potentials that the region abounds in.

Furthermore, Mustapha Azizi, a researcher in strategic and geopolitical issues, discussed the topic of sustainable development and employment in light of the social, economic, and environmental challenges facing the region, proposing a set of practical recommendations for promoting sustainable local development.

The opening ceremony of the forum, hosted by the Prince Moulay El Hassan House of Culture, was marked by a symbolic honoring of Fouad El Azzouzi, a journalist at the Al Hoceima bureau of the Second National Television Channel (2M), and Khadija Aghdar, a retired journalist from the regional radio station in Tetouan, in recognition and appreciation of their valuable contributions to enriching the press and media landscape in the region.

The activities of this important forum continue until tomorrow, Sunday, and the program includes an interactive workshop aimed at members of media and press clubs in educational institutions, facilitated by Mustapha Cheikhi, Director of the Al Hoceima Regional Radio, in addition to other in-depth presentations on media and territorial marketing, as well as the organization of a media caravan that will head to the Ait Kamra territorial community to closely observe the progress of work on the ambitious university nucleus.
