According to reliable sources, the Moroccan government has allocated more than 70 million dirhams to implement projects aimed at protecting the cities of Fes and El Hajeb from flood risks. Two partnership agreements were signed and approved during the 2024 Board of Directors meeting of the Sebou River Basin Agency (ABHS), which took place last week under the chairmanship of the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka.
As part of these projects, the council approved an amendment to a partnership agreement to extend the duration of the Fes flood protection project from 36 months to 72 months, with a total budget of 55 million dirhams. The project includes the development of the Red River and Ain Seman, and it will be carried out in collaboration with several entities, including the Sebou River Basin Agency, the National Railway Office (ONCF), the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Fes-Meknes Regional Council, the Fes Provincial Council, and the Regional Wilaya.
Regarding the city of El Hajeb, a project has been approved to enhance flood protection, with a total investment of 16.82 million dirhams. The project’s duration will also be extended from 36 to 54 months.
These initiatives are part of the broader efforts to strengthen the infrastructure’s capacity to withstand climate risks and ensure the safety of residents and their property.
