The Meknes Court of First Instance has sentenced the main defendant in a case involving the distribution of unfit-for-consumption poultry meat to eight months of imprisonment and a fine of 20,000 dirhams. The ruling was issued after the court found him guilty of marketing products that pose a threat to public health.
The case emerged following an inspection carried out by local authorities and security forces in coordination with the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA). The operation led to the discovery of large quantities of spoiled meat stored in unhealthy conditions inside plastic bags at the defendant’s premises in the Borj Moulay Omar neighborhood.
According to investigations, the meat was intended for distribution to various shops within and outside the city. Authorities also found spices and artificial colorants suspected of being used to enhance the meat’s appearance. Additionally, two vehicles used for meat transportation and distribution were seized.
In his defense, the defendant claimed that the seized meat was meant for dog breeders. However, authorities dismissed this argument due to the storage conditions and distribution methods, ultimately leading to his conviction and sentencing.
