Historic Visit of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister to Morocco: Strong Support for Territorial Integrity and Praise for Royal Initiatives

Key meetings took place in Rabat on Friday between Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Murat Nurtleu, and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita. This visit marked the first-ever trip by a Kazakh Foreign Minister to Morocco since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992.

Praise for Royal Initiatives

Nurtleu commended Morocco’s royal initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability in Africa while contributing to the continent’s socio-economic development. He also reiterated Kazakhstan’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, welcoming the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as a political solution to the Sahara issue.

Strategic Africa-Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project

The Kazakh official praised the Strategic Africa-Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project, recognizing its role in fostering development in African nations and improving the well-being of their populations. He also expressed admiration for Morocco’s social and economic progress, particularly highlighting the ongoing reforms of Morocco’s Family Code, which aim to ensure family stability and protect the rights of women and children.

Support for the Palestinian Cause

Nurtleu acknowledged the leadership of King Mohammed VI in defending the Palestinian cause and his efforts in safeguarding Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem. Kazakhstan also expressed appreciation for the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, recognizing its active role in implementing development projects and programs for the benefit of the city’s residents.

Strengthening Military and Cultural Cooperation

The joint statement emphasized the commitment of both countries to enhancing military and defense cooperation, as well as their shared efforts in combating terrorism and violent extremism. The two ministers also expressed their desire to establish twinning arrangements between cultural institutions and facilitate academic exchange programs for students and faculty members.

Cooperation Agreements

Both officials welcomed the upcoming signing of a cultural cooperation agreement and expressed their willingness to expedite the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on higher education and other cooperation agreements. They also celebrated the upcoming implementation of the visa exemption agreement for national passport holders, set to take effect on March 19, 2025.

Religious and Sports Cooperation

Morocco and Kazakhstan agreed on the importance of enhancing cooperation between Islamic institutions in both countries. Kazakhstan also congratulated Morocco on its role in co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
