Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi has confirmed that the implementation of the Alternative Sentencing Law—published in the Official Gazette last August—will begin as soon as the necessary regulatory texts are issued. The minister expects these texts to be published within a maximum of one year.
In a press statement, Minister Ouahbi explained that the regulatory texts will provide key details regarding the use of electronic bracelets as a tool for enforcing alternative sentences. They will also define the role of the prison administration in monitoring and executing these penalties.
This announcement is part of the implementation of the outcomes of a meeting chaired by Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch in November, which brought together representatives from various relevant sectors.
In this context, the Ministry of Justice has initiated a broad consultative meeting with concerned institutions to discuss mechanisms for applying the new law and ensuring its effective implementation.
