Morocco Accelerates Stadium Upgrades for AFCON 2025 and FIFA World Cup 2030

Following a meeting chaired by the Head of Government, attended by all stakeholders involved in preparing the necessary infrastructure for hosting major sports events, Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget and President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, revealed significant progress in the renovation of national stadiums in preparation for hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)—a key step ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

In his statement, Lekjaa confirmed that Morocco is strictly adhering to a precise timeline to complete work on the nine stadiums designated for the African tournament. He announced that Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca will be ready by the end of March 2025, followed by the Fes, Agadir, and Marrakech stadiums. Meanwhile, Prince Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat is expected to be completed before the end of August, along with the Moulay Hassan Complex and Stade du Courrier.

Lekjaa emphasized that these preparations are not just aimed at ensuring Morocco’s readiness for AFCON 2025, but also form a critical foundation for hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The infrastructure upgrades are being carried out according to the highest international standards to position Morocco as a top global sports destination.

The meeting also stressed the importance of meeting deadlines, ensuring that all stadiums and sports facilities are fully prepared at least seven months before AFCON kicks off, demonstrating Morocco’s commitment to efficient planning and successful event organization.
