With only 24 hours remaining until the session to elect a new president for the Traditional Crafts Chamber in the Fes-Meknes region, anticipation continues to build among members and observers amidst a fierce competition between prominent candidates, Al-Naji Al-Fakhari and Abdul Malik Al-Boutayyin.
Al-Naji Al-Fakhari, a former parliamentary advisor from the Istiqlal Party, appears to enjoy strong support from the majority of members, with estimates suggesting he has the backing of 48 out of 82 advisors in the chamber’s general assembly. Meanwhile, Abdul Malik Al-Boutayyin, the former president whose election was annulled by the courts due to his lack of a primary school certificate, is seeking a strong comeback after recently obtaining his certificate.
The session scheduled for this coming Tuesday will be held at the headquarters of the Fes Prefecture, at the invitation of Wali of the Fes-Meknes region, Mohaed El-Jamii, who aims to ensure that the elections proceed in an atmosphere of transparency and integrity following recent crises faced by the chamber.
Competition is expected to be fierce between the two candidates, as each relies on rallying support from various factions within the chamber. There is a clear division between those calling for change and supporting Al-Fakhari and those who view Al-Boutayyin’s return as a continuation of previous projects.
As the decisive moment approaches, traditional craftsmen eagerly await the outcome of this election, which could shape a new future for the traditional crafts sector in the Fes-Meknes region.
