On Friday, August 16, 2024, judicial police elements in the city of Fez successfully apprehended a French citizen of Algerian origin who was internationally wanted in cases related to international drug trafficking.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) reported that the suspect was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by French judicial authorities. The Directorate added that the detainee is “accused of being linked to a criminal network active in international drug and psychotropic substances trafficking.”
The suspect was arrested based on intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The General Directorate of National Security indicated that the suspect has been placed in police custody by order of the competent public prosecutor, as part of the procedures required by the extradition process in accordance with national legislation and applicable international conventions.
This operation comes as part of the ongoing efforts by Moroccan authorities to combat transnational organized crime and enhance international cooperation in the field of drug trafficking prevention.
The arrest highlights Morocco’s commitment to international law enforcement cooperation and its proactive approach in tackling cross-border criminal activities. It also underscores the effectiveness of intelligence sharing between various security agencies in the kingdom.
