The Popular Union of Taxi Drivers in Fez and the Solidarity Association for the Development of Professional Drivers and Small Taxi Operators in Fez have issued an urgent appeal to the Governor of Fez Security due to increasing attacks on taxis by individuals with mental and psychological disorders.
The letter refers to a tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, on Mohammed VI Avenue, resulting in significant material and human losses. The unions emphasized that these recurring incidents pose a direct threat to the safety and security of drivers, negatively impacting the sector’s stability and the provision of transportation services to citizens.
The unions called on authorities to take necessary measures to solve this persistent problem, including:
- Intensifying security patrols to ensure the protection of drivers and their property, and to apprehend individuals who pose a threat to public safety.
- Collaborating with health authorities to provide necessary care for individuals suffering from psychological disorders and to rehabilitate them.
