Agriculture Minister announces subsidies for tomato, potato and onion seeds as prices continue to rise

Mohamed Siddiqui, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forestry, revealed a set of exceptional measures taken by the government to face the difficult climatic challenges facing Morocco.

In addition to the implementation of major projects under the Green Generation Strategy, an exceptional program to support farmers and livestock breeders and protect production chains has been implemented and will continue to be implemented with the support of the government, the minister said.

During Tuesday’s session in the House of Councillors, the Minister of Agriculture answered a question from the National Rally of Independents on the planned measures to support the agricultural sector and alleviate the burden of drought and production.

Siddiqui announced that the government will allocate 4 billion dirhams to support plant production chains, with a focus on subsidizing grains, seeds and beetroot at a value of up to 1,000 dirhams per hectare.

The minister added that the government will subsidize tomato, potato and onion seeds at between 50 and 70 percent of the purchase price, in addition to subsidizing nitrogen fertilizers for the first time.

The minister announced the continuation of watering solidarity farming trees and supporting livestock production chains by allocating 5 billion dirhams, which includes the continued distribution of subsidized barley in the required quantities and free protection of livestock.
