Sahara – April 24, 2025 – Well-informed field sources reported that three fighters belonging to the separatist Polisario militias surrendered themselves this Thursday afternoon to units of the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces stationed at the security belt in the Gueltat Zemmour area. This surrender occurred after an armed patrol belonging to the front deliberately abandoned them, according to the same sources.
According to the sources, the patrol left the three individuals exposed in an area known for the activity of Moroccan drone aircraft, in an attempt to set them up as easy targets for aerial bombardment. The sources considered this behavior an indication of “increasing divisions and settling of scores” within the ranks of the separatist front.
However, the three fighters, after realizing the imminent danger they faced, took the initiative to advance towards the Moroccan lines in a state of surrender, pleading not to be targeted.
The Royal Armed Forces treated the surrendered individuals in accordance with ethical values and international conventions. They were received after ensuring they posed no immediate threat, despite still carrying their full military equipment.
The three individuals are expected to be subjected to the security and legal procedures in force, in order to investigate the circumstances of their abandonment by their leaders, as well as their previous roles within the ranks of the Polisario mercenaries.
