In a public session held by the Fez-Meknes Regional Council on March 4, 2024, the council unanimously approved a project to support sports teams in the region for the year 2024. The session was attended by 49 members, with 39 of them voting in favor of the project without any objections or abstentions.
According to the decision, a total amount of 8.6 million dirhams will be allocated to support football clubs in the region. The Maghreb Athletic Fez Association will receive the largest share of 4 million dirhams, followed by the Meknes Sports Club Association and the Wydad Athletic Fez Association with 2 million dirhams each, while the Wifaq Athletic Fez Association will receive 600,000 dirhams.
The council also proposed additional support for other sports teams in various disciplines. For example, the Maghreb Athletic Fez Basketball Association will receive 400,000 dirhams, while other teams in sports such as volleyball, handball, athletics, and swimming will receive amounts ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 dirhams.
This generous support aims to enhance the athletic performance of local teams and develop sports infrastructure in the Fez-Meknes region. The decision was signed by both the President of the Regional Council, Abdelwahed Al-Ansari, and the Council Secretary, Youssef Mourad.
It is worth noting that this initiative comes as part of the council’s efforts to support the sports sector and encourage local talent, which may contribute to raising the level of sports in the region and achieving better results at both national and international levels.
The council’s decision reflects a significant investment in various sports, with football receiving the lion’s share of the funding. This financial boost is expected to have a positive impact on the development of sports facilities, training programs, and overall competitiveness of teams from the Fez-Meknes region.
