Prominent Taounate Journalist Issues Appeal to Head of Provincial Council: “Distance Your Followers from the Citizens”

In a direct and strong message, prominent Taounate journalist Abdel Nabi Al-Sharatt issued an appeal to the head of the provincial council, urging him to “distance” his so-called “followers” from the citizens who have taken to the streets to demand their legitimate rights.

This came in a post published by Al-Sharatt on his Facebook account on the evening of Saturday, September 27, 2025, commenting on the planned protests in the town of Tissa. He called on the authorities to prioritize “wisdom” and allow the protesters to express their demands, which he summarized as “health, education, development, and roads.”

In his appeal, Al-Sharatt clearly distinguished between two groups, addressing the provincial council head by saying, “We ask you to distance your followers from the citizens who do not demand privileges or money but rather legitimate rights.”

The post received wide engagement on social media platforms, with many commentators considering it an accurate summary of the nature of the ongoing conflict in the province—between a protest movement with clear developmental and social demands and political factions suspected of using their tools to confront these demands in service of narrow interests.
