Taounate, July 29, 2025 – Mr. Nour Eddine Hassani sent an official letter containing a detailed report to a group of officials responsible for the health sector, including the Minister of Health, the President of the National Human Rights Council, the regional and provincial delegates of the Ministry of Health in the Fès-Meknès region and Taounate, as well as the director of the Taounate Regional Hospital. The letter included a complaint regarding mistreatment and delayed medical assistance to a pregnant woman who was in an emergency labor situation.
Medical Neglect Incident Reveals Flaws in Healthcare Services
Hassani’s letter revealed a painful incident that occurred at the Taounate Regional Hospital, where a woman from a hamlet in the Aïn Aïcha commune was subjected to neglect and disregard by the medical staff. According to the information in the report, the woman arrived at the hospital at 7:30 AM suffering from labor pains, yet she did not receive the necessary care.
Hassani explained that the woman, who had previously given birth three times, was in a condition that required special attention. Despite repeated attempts by her family to contact doctors and nurses, they were met with complete neglect. He added that the family felt there was “a form of discrimination” and “indifference” in handling her condition, which forced them to decide to transfer her to the university hospital in the city of Fès.
According to the report, the family had to travel over 100 kilometers to transfer the woman to Fès, where she was admitted to the maternity ward and her condition was properly monitored. The family expressed their shock and dissatisfaction with the experience, emphasizing that what happened was inconsistent with the noble goals of the medical profession.
In closing his letter, Mr. Hassani urged officials to intervene urgently to open an investigation into this incident and hold accountable all those responsible for the neglect, calling for the urgent improvement of healthcare services at the Taounate Regional Hospital and the provision of necessary care to citizens, especially in emergency cases.
