Government Spokesperson Comments on Delay of Water Desalination Plant in Casablanca

In a statement following a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, Mustapha Baitas, the official government spokesperson, addressed the issue of the delay in the construction of the water desalination plant in Casablanca, which was originally scheduled for completion in 2016.

Baitas explained that the delay in the project’s completion was due to several factors, which have not been clearly defined at this time. He emphasized that the project was meant to be completed on schedule, and that this delay had a significant impact on the allocation of substantial financial resources that were intended for its development. These funds, he noted, could have been invested in other projects had the plant been completed on time.

The spokesperson reassured that no project was conducted outside the framework of the law, stressing that all operations were carried out in compliance with applicable regulations. Regarding the actual causes of the delay, Baitas mentioned that more information would be provided in due course to give a clearer picture of the situation.

He stated: “Today, we are facing a difficult situation due to this delay, and we need to investigate the true causes of this issue, especially since the plant was supposed to be completed in 2016.”

Additionally, the minister addressed questions raised by some individuals regarding the delay, affirming that clear answers would be provided in the near future. He added that no one would be allowed to mislead the public about this matter and assured that many details would be disclosed to clarify all aspects of the issue.
