Railway Industry Summit Launches in Morocco: Towards New Horizons for Transport and Development

The city of Casablanca witnessed on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the opening of the third edition of the Railway Industry Summit, amid a notable presence of government officials and industry experts. This summit comes as part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to develop its railway system and strengthen its position as a regional leader in this field.

Mohamed Rabie Khlie, President of the National Railways Office, emphasized that Morocco faces major challenges in the railway industry, pointing to the necessity of strengthening and intensifying rail connections between the kingdom’s cities. This approach comes in the context of ongoing preparations to host the 2030 World Cup, as the kingdom plans to invest more than 87 billion dirhams over the next five years to expand the network, add new trains, and upgrade classic lines.

In this context, SIANA, a joint venture between the Moroccan National Railways Office (ONCF) and the French National Railways Company (SNCF), emerges as a key player in the development and maintenance of high-speed trains in Morocco. The company aims to boost the growth of its activities in railway maintenance and employ a team of qualified professionals to keep pace with this development.

Mohamed Smouni, Director of the Railway Industry Conference and Deputy Director General of the National Railways Office, indicated that this summit is being held during a period of significant investments in the railway sector leading up to 2030. He added that these investments will enable Morocco to connect stadiums and airports via high-speed trains, enhancing infrastructure readiness for hosting the World Cup.

It’s worth noting that this summit is witnessing wide participation, including 600 participants from 14 countries, 120 exhibitors, in addition to 200 companies and contractors. This reflects the growing international interest in Morocco’s experience in the railway industry and high-speed transportation.

In conclusion, these developments confirm Morocco’s commitment to developing the railway sector and enhancing its role as an engine for economic and social development in the country. With continued investments and innovations in this field, Morocco looks forward to achieving a qualitative leap in transportation services and strengthening its position as a leading model in the railway industry at both regional and international levels.
