Sports – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is continuing to intensify its monitoring of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, through field visits covering the main stadiums, training grounds, hotels and transport infrastructure in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, the three host countries for the upcoming edition.
A CAF delegation carried out an eight-day inspection mission to assess the readiness of the sports and logistical infrastructure required to host the competition, which is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
The 2027 edition will be notable for being organized jointly for the first time by three East African countries, namely Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, more than half a century after the competition was last hosted in the region.
The inspections come amid questions raised in recent months regarding the progress of some infrastructure projects and the ability of the host countries to complete them within the specified deadlines, alongside previous speculation about the possibility of changing the host countries if the required facilities were not ready.
The inspection delegation included officials responsible for competitions, security and safety, transport, marketing, media and television, as well as logistics. The visit covered the three capitals of the host countries.
In Kenya, the CAF delegation inspected the new Talanta Stadium in Nairobi, which has a capacity of approximately 60,000 spectators, as well as a number of training grounds and hotels designated for national teams and officials, in addition to facilities related to transport, airports and other sites associated with organizing the competition.
The delegation then traveled to Uganda and Tanzania to assess the readiness of the main facilities, including Mandela National Stadium in Kampala and Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, as well as training grounds, hotels, airports and supporting infrastructure.
CAF said the tour was part of an expanded technical monitoring program aimed at supporting the three host countries and ensuring that the facilities comply with the international standards required to host a continental competition of this scale.
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have recent experience in joint organization, having jointly hosted the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). CAF considers this experience an important foundation for preparations for the final tournament of AFCON 2027.
Representatives of the local organizing committees in the host countries had also previously participated in an observation mission during the latest edition of the Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Morocco, where they reviewed several aspects related to stadium management, security, media operations and the organization of match days.
Through this new inspection mission, CAF seeks to continue supporting the host countries and to continuously assess the progress of preparations, at a time when Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania remain officially the host countries of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, amid ambitions to organize a landmark edition that will strengthen the presence of football in East Africa.
CAN 2027.. La CAF poursuit l’inspection des stades et des infrastructures dans les pays hôtes
Sport – La Confédération africaine de football « CAF » poursuit l’intensification de son suivi des préparatifs de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations 2027, à travers des visites de terrain couvrant les principaux stades, terrains d’entraînement, hôtels et infrastructures de transport au Kenya, en Ouganda et en Tanzanie, les trois pays hôtes de la prochaine édition.
Une délégation de la CAF a effectué une mission d’inspection de huit jours afin d’évaluer le niveau de préparation des infrastructures sportives et logistiques nécessaires à l’organisation de la compétition, prévue du 19 juin au 17 juillet 2027.
L’édition 2027 se distingue par le fait qu’elle sera organisée pour la première fois conjointement par trois pays d’Afrique de l’Est, à savoir le Kenya, l’Ouganda et la Tanzanie, plus d’un demi-siècle après la dernière organisation de la compétition dans la région.
Ces opérations d’inspection interviennent dans un contexte marqué par des interrogations soulevées ces derniers mois concernant l’avancement de certains projets d’infrastructure et la capacité des pays hôtes à les achever dans les délais impartis, alors que des spéculations avaient précédemment évoqué la possibilité de changer les pays organisateurs en cas de non-disponibilité des infrastructures requises.
La mission d’inspection comprenait des responsables des secteurs des compétitions, de la sécurité et de la sûreté, des transports, du marketing, des médias et de la télévision, ainsi que de la logistique. La visite a couvert les trois capitales des pays hôtes.
Au Kenya, la délégation de la CAF a inspecté le nouveau stade Talanta à Nairobi, d’une capacité d’environ 60 000 spectateurs, ainsi qu’un certain nombre de terrains d’entraînement et d’hôtels destinés aux équipes nationales et aux responsables, en plus des infrastructures liées aux transports, aux aéroports et d’autres sites liés à l’organisation de la compétition.
La délégation s’est ensuite rendue en Ouganda et en Tanzanie afin d’évaluer l’état de préparation des principales infrastructures, notamment le stade national Mandela à Kampala et le stade Benjamin Mkapa à Dar es Salaam, ainsi que les terrains d’entraînement, les hôtels, les aéroports et les infrastructures de soutien.
La CAF a indiqué que cette tournée s’inscrivait dans le cadre d’un programme élargi d’opérations de contrôle technique visant à accompagner les trois pays hôtes et à s’assurer de la conformité des infrastructures aux normes internationales requises pour accueillir une compétition continentale de cette ampleur.
Le Kenya, l’Ouganda et la Tanzanie bénéficient d’une expérience récente en matière d’organisation conjointe, après avoir accueilli ensemble la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations des joueurs locaux « CHAN 2024 ». Cette expérience est considérée par la CAF comme une base importante pour la préparation de la phase finale de la CAN 2027.
Des représentants des comités locaux d’organisation des pays hôtes avaient également participé à une mission d’observation lors de la dernière édition de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations organisée au Maroc, où ils avaient pris connaissance de plusieurs aspects liés à la gestion des stades, à la sécurité, aux opérations médiatiques et à l’organisation des jours de match.
À travers cette nouvelle mission d’inspection, la CAF cherche à poursuivre son accompagnement des pays organisateurs et à évaluer de manière continue l’avancement des préparatifs, alors que le Kenya, l’Ouganda et la Tanzanie demeurent officiellement les pays hôtes de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations 2027, avec l’ambition d’organiser une édition remarquable qui renforcera la présence du football en Afrique de l’Est.
