Fes – A joint committee, chaired by the Head of the Sidi Harazem administrative district and operating under the supervision of the Governor of the Fes-Meknes Region, visited a clay extraction quarry operated by a private company to assess the company’s compliance with applicable safety and environmental standards.
The intervention by the local authorities followed a formal complaint submitted by the Pottery Cooperative, which raised concerns about alleged violations at the site. According to the complaint, the quarry lacks adequate warning signs and protective fencing, while environmental violations resulting from uncontrolled excavation and the absence of tree planting were also reported, posing a direct risk to the safety of workers at the quarry.
According to a source speaking to Fes News, the field inspection comes in light of previous incidents related to safety conditions at the same quarry. The site witnessed a fatal accident involving a bulldozer driver in 2016, while another driver suffered fractures to both legs approximately six months ago.
