Morocco – Morocco’s Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level weather alert, warning of a severe heatwave expected to affect several regions of the Kingdom from Wednesday through Saturday, with temperatures forecast to reach 47°C in some provinces.
According to the DGM, temperatures between 45°C and 47°C are expected from Wednesday to Friday in the provinces of Oued Eddahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Smara, Taroudant, Tata, Zagora, Errachidia, and Aousserd.
Temperatures ranging from 42°C to 45°C are also forecast from Wednesday to Saturday in Fquih Ben Salah, Kelaat Sraghna, and Béni Mellal.
Beginning Thursday through Saturday, the heatwave will extend to Agadir Ida-Outanane, Marrakech, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Khénifra, Taounate, Ouazzane, Meknès, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Sidi Kacem, Khouribga, Settat, and Chichaoua, where temperatures are expected to range between 42°C and 45°C.
The meteorological authority added that Laâyoune, Tarfaya, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan will also experience temperatures between 42°C and 45°C on Thursday and Friday, while Essaouira and Sidi Ifni are expected to record temperatures ranging from 39°C to 42°C.
On Friday and Saturday, temperatures between 40°C and 45°C are forecast in Sidi Slimane, Benslimane, Khemisset, Safi, Sidi Bennour, Guercif, and Taza.
The Directorate General of Meteorology urged residents to exercise caution, particularly during the hottest hours of the day, stay well hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Fès-Meknès prepares for severe heatwave as temperatures expected to reach 45°C
