According to statements published by local groups, the area around the mosque has seen an accumulation of waste and debris resulting from commercial activities. They say this has led to unpleasant odors reaching the vicinity of the mosque, particularly during the summer, in a situation they believe is inconsistent with the sanctity of the place of worship and with worshippers’ right to perform religious rituals in appropriate conditions.
The groups added that the issue extends beyond environmental concerns to what they describe as the occupation of public space through the installation of tents near the mosque’s entrance and the imam’s residence. The local organizations called on the competent authorities to take urgent action by cleaning the area surrounding the mosque, removing all forms of illegal occupation of public property, reorganizing the public space to improve traffic flow, and providing a suitable location for street vendors so they can conduct their activities within an organized framework that protects their livelihoods while preserving the public interest.
