Fez – A growing wave of frustration continues among families and students in Oulad Tayeb on the outskirts of Fez due to what local observers describe as “management failures” affecting the school transport sector. Hundreds of students are reportedly facing daily difficulties reaching their schools despite the continued operation of school buses.
According to information gathered by Fes News from parents and affected residents, several school transport buses sometimes leave without transporting all eligible students, forcing many of them to wait for long periods or miss classes and arrive late repeatedly.
The same sources indicated that around 1,200 students are directly affected by the situation, particularly as exam periods approach, increasing concerns among families about the impact of the crisis on their children’s academic performance.
Local observers also believe that the association responsible for managing school transport has become unable to properly oversee this vital public service, whether in terms of organizing routes or ensuring transport conditions that meet the needs of students coming from various villages within the commune.
Amid rising tensions, several parents stated that affected families are preparing to organize a peaceful protest in the coming days to demand intervention from the relevant authorities and the opening of an investigation into the management of school transport services, while also calling for urgent solutions to guarantee students’ right to education under suitable conditions.
This situation comes at a time when school transport remains one of the most important tools in combating school dropout rates in semi-urban areas, particularly around Fez, where hundreds of families rely daily on buses to transport their children to educational institutions.
Affected families are calling for the reorganization of school transport routes, along with stronger monitoring and oversight measures, in order to end students’ suffering and ensure equal access to education, especially during this sensitive stage of the academic year.
