Local observers in Taza Province have expressed growing concern over what they describe as the deteriorating environmental situation in Oued Jaouna. The issue is attributed to the renewed flow of wastewater mixed with industrial discharge, raising fears among nearby residents about potential health and environmental impacts.
According to locally circulated information, this situation comes after a period of relative improvement following recent rainfall, before pollution reappeared due to the discharge of sewage from certain residential areas, as well as waste linked to processing activities reportedly being released into the riverbed.
Observers noted that this issue is not new, as residents have submitted multiple complaints over the years to various authorities, including water and environmental services and local officials. These efforts had previously led to a temporary halt of some pollution sources, before the problem resurfaced in recent weeks.
In this context, residents are preparing to relaunch the issue by collecting signatures to submit a new complaint to the relevant authorities, calling for urgent intervention to stop the discharge of wastewater and industrial waste into the river, given its direct impact on the local environment and quality of life.
Environmental stakeholders warn of the repercussions of this situation on groundwater resources and the ecological balance of the المنطقة, as well as potential health risks, particularly for children and the elderly.
