The local branch of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) in the commune of Tahar Souk, Taounate Province, has raised alarm over the growing use of drugs among young people, particularly in the vicinity of secondary schools. The development has sparked increasing concern among local stakeholders.

In a statement, the party’s local office stressed that the situation requires urgent and coordinated intervention from all concerned parties, including local authorities, education professionals, families, and civil society, in order to curb the spread of the phenomenon and protect students from its consequences.

The same source called for intensified security patrols to crack down on drug dealers, along with strengthened monitoring around educational institutions and firm action against any suspicious behavior that could threaten students’ safety.

In a related context, the statement also addressed other local issues, including what it described as premature electoral campaigning. It urged citizens—especially young people—to register on electoral lists and take part in upcoming elections.

On the healthcare front, the local branch expressed ongoing concern about the state of the sector in the province, calling for the appointment of a chief physician at the health center in the commune of Tmadite, as part of efforts to improve and expand access to healthcare services.

The statement further emphasized the need to accelerate the rehabilitation of roads and rural tracks across various communes in the region, as well as upgrading educational facilities in certain villages to ensure better learning conditions and equal opportunities.

It concluded by calling on political and civil actors to coordinate efforts in addressing these challenges and meeting the expectations of Taounate Province residents.
