Fez: House Roof Collapse in the Keddane Neighborhood of the Old City Injures a Woman and Triggers Urgent Mobilization

Fez – Special | The Keddane neighborhood in the old medina of Fez witnessed today a house roof collapse, resulting in the injury of a woman, prompting an urgent intervention by the various concerned services.

Immediately after being notified of the incident, local and security authorities, accompanied by civil protection units, rushed to the scene, where the perimeter of the collapsed house was secured, first aid was provided to the injured woman, and she was then transferred to a medical facility to receive the necessary treatment.

According to initial information, the house in question is part of the old urban fabric, where a number of buildings suffer from structural aging, once again raising concerns about the safety of buildings at risk of collapse and the need to accelerate rehabilitation and restoration programs to protect residents.

In the same context, the competent services have launched technical inspections and opened an investigation to determine the causes and circumstances of the roof collapse, as well as to assess the condition of neighboring houses in order to prevent any potential risks.

This incident brings back to the forefront the call for strengthened monitoring and proactive intervention in the old medina of Fez, a site of historical and human heritage value that requires continuous maintenance balancing the preservation of architectural heritage with ensuring the safety and security of its residents.
