Fez – Special | Earlier today, the Governor of the Fez-Meknes Region, Khalid Ait Taleb, accompanied by the Wali (Chief) of Fez Police, paid a field visit to the site where the roof of a house collapsed in the old medina of Fez, an incident that resulted in a woman sustaining injuries of varying severity.

According to initial information, the incident triggered the mobilization of all concerned services, as local and security authorities, along with civil protection units, rushed to the scene immediately after being alerted, in order to secure the area and provide the necessary first aid to the injured woman, before transferring her to a medical facility for treatment.

The field visit by the regional governor and the police chief comes as part of closely monitoring the developments of the incident and assessing its circumstances, particularly in light of the aging structures and deterioration affecting some buildings in the old city, a situation that requires constant vigilance and proactive intervention to protect lives and property.

The competent services continue to carry out technical inspections and investigations under the supervision of the relevant authorities, to determine the exact causes of the roof collapse and assess the condition of the affected building and neighboring houses, while taking preventive measures to avoid any potential risks.

This incident once again brings to the forefront the issue of maintenance and rehabilitation of buildings at risk of collapse in the old medina of Fez, a site of national and world heritage value that requires an integrated approach balancing the preservation of its historical character with ensuring the safety of its residents.
