The Tahar Souk branch office of the Democratic Confederation of Labour issued a statement addressed to public opinion, expressing concern over what it described as “unsound” professional conditions within Tmdit Municipality. The statement criticizes a number of practices that the union says undermine employees’ rights and negatively affect the administrative work environment.
According to the statement, following a meeting held in Tahar Souk, the union office identified several issues related to human resources management. It pointed to what it described as “outdated” management methods that are inconsistent with current laws and the provisions governing the civil service.
The statement listed a number of observations, including the absence of compensation for certain tasks and duties, irregular access to annual leave, and complaints related to workplace treatment within the municipal administration. The union office also referred to what it considered an infringement on the “professional dignity” of some employees.
It further cited assignments carried out outside the legal framework and the absence of a participatory approach in managing staff affairs, calling for respect for established administrative and legal procedures and for ensuring working conditions that safeguard rights and uphold the principle of equality within public services.
In the same context, the union office reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue as a fundamental mechanism for resolving disputes, while urging the relevant authorities to intervene to address the shortcomings highlighted in the statement, in a manner that ensures institutional stability and preserves employees’ rights and duties.
The union branch also announced that it reserves the right to resort to legally sanctioned forms of protest should its demands go unaddressed, while at the same time stressing its commitment to serving the public interest and ensuring the normal functioning of the municipal service.
