Fes — Since the beginning of the current week, local authorities in the city of Fes have been conducting intensive and surprise inspection campaigns targeting a large number of restaurants, cafés, fast-food outlets, and snack bars across various neighborhoods. These operations are being carried out in joint coordination with health services, the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA), and security forces.
These ongoing field operations come as part of the general mobilization underway in the spiritual capital in preparation for hosting Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) events. Authorities are focusing on strengthening health and food safety conditions, ensuring service quality that meets the expectations of both visitors and residents, and protecting consumers from any violations that could harm public health.
During their rounds, which began at the start of the week, mixed inspection committees concentrated on verifying the sources of raw materials used in food preparation, storage and refrigeration conditions, and the extent to which staff comply with hygiene and preventive requirements. These interventions resulted in the detection of several irregularities in some establishments, leading to the seizure and destruction of quantities of food products of unknown origin or past their expiration dates, as well as the drafting of legal reports against offenders in accordance with applicable laws.
This campaign reflects the determination of the competent authorities to act proactively ahead of major events by cleaning up the sector from unhealthy practices and sending a firm message to professionals about the need to comply with quality standards—thereby safeguarding the city’s tourism image and ensuring the safety of Fes cuisine.
