Merinides District Council Bureau to Accept President’s Resignation, Urges Him to Continue His Term

According to minutes of a meeting of the Bureau of the Merinides District Council, the Bureau held an emergency session on Monday, 29 December 2025, at the district headquarters to discuss media reports claiming that the Council President intended to submit his resignation for “health and professional” reasons.

The minutes state that the Bureau members decided to reject accepting any current or future resignation from the President, and called on him to continue in office until the end of the current term. They also commended what they described as the achievements of the Council’s presidency and Bureau over recent years, before concluding the meeting in the afternoon.

This development comes after Fes News reported on 27 December 2025 that an official letter containing the President’s resignation had been addressed to the Governor of the Prefecture of Fes and the Wali of the Fes–Meknes region. The letter reportedly referenced provisions of Organic Law 113.14, citing “personal” reasons—particularly health and family considerations—as well as the need to devote time to his private work, according to the document’s content.

While the Bureau’s minutes reflect an internal stance opposing the resignation and urging continuity, the handling of the matter and any resulting steps remain subject to the applicable legal and regulatory framework and the relevant administrative procedures.
