Fez Turns the Page on the “Brazil Blackout”: Chaoui Succeeds in the “Rain Test” and Secures Nigeria–Tanzania Clash with Zero Electrical Failure

December 23, 2025 – Fez

Fez has successfully passed a major organizational test after the Regional Multi-Service Company (SRM Fès–Meknès) won the challenge of energy management during the first matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted at the Fez Sports Complex. The match between Nigeria and Tanzania was played under heavy rainfall, yet electric power supply was maintained at 100% reliability, with no interruptions.

Under the supervision of the Regional Director, Mr. Chaoui, the company managed to avoid a repeat of the “nightmare scenario” experienced on September 7, 2023, when a power outage lasting more than 15 minutes disrupted the Olympic national team’s match against Brazil—an incident that at the time severely affected the city’s sporting image.

In sharp contrast to past disruptions, the regional company demonstrated a high level of technical preparedness, implementing a strict preventive plan that included reinforcing backup generators and deploying technical teams across all key points of the stadium. This ensured uninterrupted live broadcasting and smooth continuation of the match, despite the torrential rain that accompanied the game.

This field achievement confirms a clear break with previous management practices and highlights the success of the new regional leadership’s strategy in securing vital infrastructure during major events. It has helped restore confidence among sports fans and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Fez’s ability to host continental tournaments in line with international standards, with zero tolerance for error.
