Alert! Cold Weather Sweeps Across Morocco… Red Warning Issued for Frost and Ice

Rabat – The General Directorate of Meteorology has announced that several regions across Morocco will experience local heavy thunderstorms, snowfall, and a significant drop in temperatures from Wednesday through Saturday.

The Directorate, in an orange alert bulletin, indicated that heavy thunderstorms ranging from 30 to 50 mm are expected in the provinces of Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Khénifra, and El Kelaa des Sraghna, starting today, Wednesday at 1:00 PM until midday on Thursday.

Moderate thunderstorms (20 to 30 mm) are also expected during the same period in regions including Settat, Mohammedia, Chtouka Aït Baha, Sidi Ifni, Taroudant, Tiznit, Kenitra, Sidi Slimane, Nouaceur, Benslimane, Khémisset, Berrechid, Rabat, Midelt, Rahmna, Casablanca, Mediouna, Essaouira, Fquih Ben Salah, Youssoufia, Sidi Bennour, Safi, El Jadida, Chichaoua, and Temara-Skhirat, as well as Salé.

The bulletin also forecasts snowfall at altitudes above 1500 meters, ranging from 20 to 40 cm in Midelt, Boulemane, Sefrou, Ifrane, Al Haouz, Azilal, and Ouarzazate, and between 7 and 20 cm in Al Hoceima, Taza, Taroudant, Chichaoua, Beni Mellal, Khénifra, Errachidia, and Tinghir, from Wednesday at 1:00 PM until Thursday at 6:00 PM.

The Directorate further noted that temperatures will be very cold, ranging from -3°C to -7°C in Midelt, Boulemane, Tinghir, Azilal, Chichaoua, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Taroudant, and Ifrane, from Thursday through Saturday.
