Meknes Accelerates Development Pace: Mohamed VI Boulevard Works Exceed 55% and Approach Early Delivery

Meknes – November 24, 2025

The Ismaili capital is experiencing remarkable urban dynamism with the progress of development works on Mohamed VI Boulevard exceeding 55% completion, in a project considered among the most prominent structural projects of the Meknes territorial commune, and expected to be delivered ahead of schedule thanks to the accelerated pace and exemplary collaboration with residents and merchants.

The project extends over 4.42 kilometers at a total cost of 62.98 million dirhams, with an initial contractual period of eight months, and includes:

  • Complete road repaving,
  • Sidewalk development using high-quality stamped concrete,
  • Upgrading the public lighting system,
  • Restoring road safety elements,
  • Enhancing green spaces and redeveloping side areas.

Abdelkarim Ouadou, head of the technical department at Meknes commune, revealed the following figures:

  • Excavation and backfill works: 90%,
  • Installation of concrete barriers: 90%,
  • Sidewalk paving with stamped concrete: 45%,
  • Public lighting works (cable laying and foundation preparation): 90%, with complete completion scheduled before the end of December 2025,
  • Planting of green spaces: 30%.

What particularly distinguished this project is the great cooperation from shop owners and residents, as public property was voluntarily cleared without any administrative or judicial intervention. Monday morning witnessed a symbolic moment when a café owner adjacent to the boulevard voluntarily removed his equipment to facilitate the passage of machinery, an image praised by the commune as evidence of “high national awareness” and mutual trust between citizens and institutions.

Mohamed VI Boulevard is considered one of Meknes’s most important thoroughfares, connecting several vital neighborhoods and receiving heavy daily traffic. The commune is counting on the new development to bring about a qualitative shift in traffic organization, reducing congestion, enhancing road safety, and restoring the city’s aesthetic appearance befitting its historical and urban status.

This project comes as part of a comprehensive strategy adopted by Meknes commune to upgrade urban infrastructure, focusing on respecting deadlines, ensuring quality, and minimizing inconvenience to residents as much as possible.

With the current completion rate and accelerated pace, it appears that Mohamed VI Boulevard will be temporarily inaugurated before year’s end, to resume its role as a vital artery and honorable urban façade for the capital of the Ismailis.
