Meknes: Government Council Approves Creation of New Industrial Acceleration Zone to Boost Investment and Job Creation

Meknes – The Government Council, convened on Thursday, Jumada al-Awwal 7, 1447 AH, corresponding to October 30, 2025, under the chairmanship of Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, Head of Government, approved Draft Decree No. 2.25.475 regarding the creation of an Industrial Acceleration Zone in Meknes, presented by the Minister of Industry and Trade. This decision aims to develop an advanced investment environment in the Meknes prefecture, enhancing regional competitiveness and opening new horizons for industrial development.

Project Objectives and Strategic Location

The draft decree specifies the creation of the industrial zone in the commune of Sidi Slimane Moul El Kifane in Meknes province, with a defined list of industrial activities permitted within it. This measure comes within the framework of supporting regional industrialization and encouraging productive investment, as a natural extension of the evolution of the free zones concept. An informed source told the “Meknes Press” website that the new zone will be located near the “Acropolis” industrial pole, which will increase the city’s territorial attractiveness and enhance its competitiveness in the industrial sector.

Investment Opportunities and Target Sectors

This zone is expected to contribute to attracting major national and international investments, especially in high value-added sectors such as the automotive industry and advanced technological industries. It will also provide opportunities for leading global companies such as APTIV, LEAR CORPORATION, and YAZAKI to expand their activities, leading to the creation of new job opportunities and stimulating local economic development. Observers believe that the project will enhance Meknes’ positioning as a promising industrial hub at the level of the Fez-Meknes region, compared to major industrial cities such as Kenitra, Casablanca, and Tangier.

Context of Industrial Development in Meknes

This project comes as part of the gradual transformation of the industrial structure in Meknes, which has moved from traditional districts such as Bassatine, Sidi Bouzekri, and Ouislane, to model districts in Mejjat and Sidi Slimane Moul El Kifane, then to the Acropolis project, which is today one of the most prominent industrial poles in the region. The new zone represents an advanced stage, enabling the city to join the club of major industrial cities in the Kingdom.

This decision is a strategic step toward enhancing sustainable development, with a focus on innovation and economic integration, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting regions and achieving territorial balance.
