Merchants of Kariat Ba Mohamed Protest Development Plan and Demand Amendments to Protect Their Interests

The Merchants’ Association of Kariat Ba Mohamed sent an official letter on August 29, 2025, to the head of the city’s Communal Council, expressing its objection to the development plan project submitted for approval.

In the letter, the association’s president, Azhar Abdelrahman, affirmed that a review of the project documents revealed provisions that do not take into account the interests of the merchants, particularly regarding the location of the weekly market, which is a fundamental pillar of commercial and social activities in the area.

The merchants pointed out that their previous protests and observations were not considered. They warned that canceling the market or relocating it to an unsuitable site would have negative repercussions for both residents and traders, and would harm the local economic cycle.

The Merchants’ Association demanded a reconsideration of the project and the introduction of necessary amendments, especially in the section related to the weekly market, while proposing its establishment in a more suitable location to ensure the continuity of commercial activity and protect the interests of the residents.

The association concluded its letter by emphasizing its readiness to cooperate with the Communal Council to reach consensual solutions that achieve local development and ensure a balance between the requirements of urban planning and the interests of citizens.
