Fes News – The newspaper has received complaints from local residents and car owners about the exploitation of a space near the Ain Qaddous roundabout in Fez, where informal parking attendants impose unauthorized fees on drivers who visit the area at night to enjoy time with their families, especially given the high temperatures during the summer season.
According to reports, this space, which is supposed to be a public park or an organized parking lot, has turned into a source of illicit profit by some attendants who charge visitors fees without any official permit or regulation. Residents express their frustration over the situation, which neither guarantees users’ rights nor benefits the Fez Municipality.
One affected resident told Fes News, “Who benefits from this parking that generates millions of dirhams? The municipality’s money is being wasted without any return for the citizens.” He added that the absence of clear signage and official parking spots leaves drivers vulnerable to exploitation by what he described as “the yellow Geely owners,” referring to the informal attendants taking advantage of the lack of oversight.
Residents are urging the relevant authorities, especially the Fez Municipality, to intervene urgently to put an end to these practices and to regulate the space legally to ensure everyone’s right to use the area without exploitation or extortion. They also call for the provision of secure and official parking facilities, particularly given the harsh weather conditions that drive families to seek safe recreational spots during summer.
The complaints emphasize the necessity to strengthen supervision over public spaces and enforce laws that prevent informal exploitation and uphold citizens’ rights, ensuring a safe and organized environment that reflects the civilized image of the city of Fez.
