Daily Fear and Concern Over Stray Dogs in the Imouzzer Road Area of Fez

Fes News – The newspaper has received repeated complaints from residents of the Imouzzer Road area and surrounding streets in the city of Fez, expressing growing fear of stray dogs roaming the neighborhoods at night, posing a threat to the safety of their children and endangering lives.

One affected resident wrote to Fes News: “This is what we suffer every evening; fear grips us that stray dogs might attack our children while they play or move to and from their homes.” Residents confirm that this phenomenon has become a major source of anxiety, especially during the evening hours when the number of stray dogs increases, restricting movement and affecting the comfort and safety of the community.

The residents are calling on local authorities, particularly the Fez Municipality as the direct responsible body for local governance, to urgently intervene and find effective solutions to this issue that threatens public health and safety in residential neighborhoods.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Interior previously issued a directive prohibiting the killing of stray animals, as part of respecting animal rights and complying with national and international laws on animal protection. This directive encourages adopting alternative measures to manage the stray animal phenomenon, such as establishing communal shelters for animals or resorting to medical sterilization as an effective way to control their population, while ensuring public safety and reducing health risks.

Residents emphasize the need to adopt humane and effective solutions such as creating collective shelters for stray animals or using medical sterilization to limit their reproduction, thereby preventing the dangers that may result from the spread of these animals in the streets.

The residents of Imouzzer Road urge the Fez Municipality to assume its responsibilities and take immediate measures to protect children and residents, providing a safe and healthy environment for all, free from the risks posed by stray dogs in residential areas.

Fes News will continue to closely follow this important issue and keep its readers informed of any developments affecting the daily lives of citizens.
