Fez Residents Outraged by Accumulation of Waste in Jenan El Ward, Call for Immediate Action

Fez, Morocco – Residents of the Jenan El Ward area in Fez have expressed their strong dissatisfaction and condemnation regarding the escalating problem of waste accumulation along the sides of designated containers. These containers quickly fill up without effective intervention from the contracted waste management company. “Fez News” newspaper received a video from one of its readers documenting the extent of the problem and highlighting the daily suffering of the residents.

The video footage shows large quantities of waste piling up outside the containers, transforming street sides into pollution hotspots and sources of foul odors. This situation not only poses an environmental and health risk to the residents but also detracts from the general appearance of the area.

Residents are directly pointing fingers at the Fez Municipality, as the overseeing authority for the cleanliness sector, demanding urgent and immediate intervention. The population is calling for an increase in the number of containers to adequately serve the growing population density in the Jenan El Ward area, in addition to the necessity of organizing and setting regular and effective waste collection times to prevent further accumulation.

Residents emphasize that this neglect in waste management reflects a breach of contract by the delegated company and requires the Fez Municipality to exercise its oversight and intervention role to ensure citizens have a clean and healthy environment, which is a fundamental right of the residents.
