Meknes – Parliamentarian for the Meknes region, Mr. Zakaria Ben Ouans, has addressed a written question to the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, under the supervision of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, inquiring about the weak or non-existent mobile phone and internet network coverage in a number of rural districts (douars) in the Meknes region.
In his question, dated May 17, 2025, Parliamentarian Ben Ouans pointed out that access to mobile phone and internet services is a fundamental pillar for reducing spatial disparities and strengthening the right to access information and digital services.
However, he noted that a number of rural districts in the Meknes region still suffer from weak or no coverage, which negatively affects the daily lives of residents and hinders their access to remote schooling services, digital administration, communication, and rural entrepreneurship.
In his question, he specifically mentioned some of these rural districts, namely “Douar Aghrabawi,” “Bahalil,” “Mghara,” and “Sidi Chbani,” which belong to the Ain Jemaa commune.
Accordingly, the Parliamentarian inquired about the measures and actions taken by the government to generalize and strengthen the mobile phone and internet network in all the rural districts of the Meknes region.
This question comes in the context of increasing demands to improve telecommunications infrastructure in rural and remote areas, to ensure that all citizens benefit from basic digital services and to promote comprehensive development. The Minister Delegate for Digital Transition is expected to provide a detailed response to this question during the upcoming parliamentary sessions.
