Fez: The project for the construction of the University Hospital Center affiliated with the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez has reached a crucial stage in its realization with the awarding of its architectural engineering design to a group of prominent architects.
The Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez announced in a statement today, Saturday, that following an open and transparent national competition, a select group of architects with extensive experience in designing major hospital institutions at the national level, including the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Tangier and the Regional Hospital Center in Kenitra, have been chosen and entrusted with overseeing the architectural and engineering design of this vital project. This selection ensures high levels of expertise and competence in the realization of this medical landmark.
The pioneering hospital institution, designed from the outset according to the advanced “smart hospital” model, is set to be built on a total area of approximately 30 hectares. Its construction will draw upon the best national and international expertise in architectural and medical fields.
The new University Hospital will feature a highly advanced infrastructure and will be equipped with the latest global technologies, including sophisticated artificial intelligence applications, connected medical devices, big data analysis systems and real-time data processing, as well as advanced robotics and cobotics technologies in the fields of diagnosis and surgery.
The Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez emphasized that these modern technologies will be at the heart of clinical pathways and hospital management operations, thereby raising the level of healthcare services provided. Specialized digital platforms for continuous medical training, simulation, and international scientific cooperation will also be established to support education and scientific research activities. Furthermore, partnership agreements will be signed with leading international university hospital centers to complete the training of future students and doctors and to facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge.
The first phase of this ambitious project includes the operation of 350 beds, representing a significant step in strengthening and expanding the healthcare provision at the regional level, with the inclusion of a number of new medical specialties not currently adequately available at either the regional or national level.
The University Hospital Center affiliated with the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez will operate in close collaboration and coordination with the Hassan II University Hospital Center in Fez, and will strive to achieve three key strategic missions serving the health sector and scientific research. These missions are to ensure the basic and continuous training of high-level medical and nursing competencies, to provide complementary and specialized healthcare services to existing hospital structures, primarily the Hassan II University Hospital Center in Fez, and to promote research and scientific innovation in the fields of medical diagnosis and treatment.
The University pointed out that the medical design of the project was prepared in full consultation and coordination with the Ministry of Health, with strict adherence to international standards regarding the adopted medical technologies and respect for sustainable environmental standards. It affirmed that upon its opening, the center will provide its basic clinical services to receive students of health sciences in various disciplines (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing sciences, biomedical engineering, and biotechnology), offering advanced specialties in medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and emergency medical-surgical care, in addition to advanced medical equipment in the fields of medical imaging, biology, and functional examinations.
A number of distinguished medical hubs have been identified within the new center to respond to the priority needs at the national and regional levels. These hubs include personalized and precision medicine, effective management of emerging and re-emerging diseases, reconstructive and cosmetic medicine and surgery, hematology and oncology, specialized sports medicine, forensic medicine and criminal sciences, major trauma treatment, and the establishment of specialized burn treatment units, in addition to developing advanced medical specialties such as cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, robotic and minimally invasive surgery, and advanced endoscopic interventions.
The integration of artificial intelligence technologies into diagnostic and treatment processes will also constitute a strong element of distinction and innovation in this new university hospital center.
The statement concluded by emphasizing that the University Hospital Center affiliated with the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez is a structuring and strategic national project aimed at strengthening the health, higher education, scientific research, and technological innovation sectors in the Kingdom, and aligns with Morocco’s major aspirations towards achieving sustainable development and improving the healthcare services provided to citizens.
