Professor and researcher Abdelmajid Bouazizi, a higher education professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Meknes – Moulay Ismail University, has won the Hassan II Prize for Invention and Research in the field of agriculture.
Professor Bouazizi was awarded this prestigious prize for his outstanding scientific project aimed at developing efficient and economical nanofiltration membranes for the treatment of industrial wastewater and seawater desalination. The project utilizes Moroccan geological resources such as bentonite, pozzolan, and phosphate.
This innovative project aims to provide sustainable solutions to address the challenges of water scarcity and pollution in Morocco, particularly in the agricultural sector. The membranes developed by the project are characterized by their high efficiency in removing pollutants and heavy metals by more than 98%, and salts by up to 97%, thus contributing to the provision of high-quality water for irrigation and agricultural activities.
In addition, the project enhances the value of local natural resources and promotes the principles of the circular economy by reducing production costs and providing environmentally friendly green technology. This technology is also widely applicable in the agricultural field.
This award is a recognition of the distinguished level of university scientific research in Morocco and affirms the commitment of Moroccan researchers to contribute effectively to achieving water security and sustainable development through practical solutions with a clear national impact.
