Meknes Brings Together Top Moroccan and French Experts at the First International Forum on Aging: Towards a New Roadmap for the Health and Dignity of Seniors

In a groundbreaking scientific event, the Higher Institute of Nursing Professions and Health Techniques in Meknes hosted the first International Forum on Aging and Gerontology on April 18–19, under the theme: “Improving the Health and Well-being of Seniors in Morocco: Towards an Integrated and Participatory Approach.”

The event was organized in partnership with the Provincial Council of Meknes, and under the supervision of the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection of Fès-Meknes and the Provincial Health Delegation of Meknes, in line with national efforts aimed at enhancing health services for the elderly.

The scientific gathering drew the participation of over 100 attendees, including students, professors, health professionals, and researchers from Rabat, Casablanca, Fès, and Meknes, as well as an international delegation from the University Hospital Center of Toulouse, France, giving the forum an international dimension that enriched its scientific relevance.

The forum featured scientific sessions, oral presentations, and hands-on workshops that tackled a range of specialized topics, such as:

  • Artificial intelligence in healthcare practice
  • Psychological and social aspects of aging
  • Chronic disease prevention
  • Therapeutic education targeted at the elderly
  • The importance of physical activity in maintaining health
  • Scientific writing techniques and statistical analysis in health research

Participants also discussed how modern technologies can be harnessed to improve the quality of life for seniors—an age group facing increasing challenges, including mental health concerns, chronic illnesses, limited mobility, polypharmacy, and restricted healthcare coverage.

Speakers stressed the need to develop a comprehensive and integrated approach to accompany population aging, in line with the Royal Directives and the Ministry of Health’s strategy to ensure equitable access to high-quality health services.

The forum also served as a platform to exchange expertise and strengthen collaboration between health and academic actors from Morocco and abroad. It concluded with a consensus on the importance of the forum’s recommendations, which aim to contribute to improving public policies directed at seniors in the Kingdom.

The event ended with the distribution of certificates to participants and widespread praise for the forum’s scientific quality and its contribution to shaping a more inclusive health system responsive to ongoing demographic and social changes.
