The Ministry of the Interior Freezes Recruitment Competitions for Local Communities and Paves the Way for the Adoption of Contract-Based Employment

The central services of the Ministry of the Interior have issued an urgent memorandum directed to regional governors and provincial officials, ordering the immediate suspension of all recruitment competitions that were scheduled by local councils, whether announced through the official public service portal or through paid media announcements.

This memorandum comes within the framework of a government policy aimed at rationalizing the wage bill and restructuring recruitment within local communities. Regional councils have been exempted from this decision, with a clear indication that future recruitment within these councils will be based on contracts rather than permanent employment, in line with the austerity policies adopted.

According to reliable sources, the Ministry of the Interior emphasized in its instructions the necessity for local council presidents to immediately cancel planned recruitment competitions and postpone them indefinitely, with the exception of cases where final results were announced before the issuance of the memorandum.

The decision raises questions about the fate of thousands of awaiting candidates, especially at a time when many local councils had begun preparing to organize recruitment competitions for technical and administrative staff, despite their chronic shortage of qualified human resources.
